Work-shadowing Placement Programme – Dubai

The Dubai Office work-shadowing placement programme is a two week scheme run by our Dubai office which is aimed specifically at individuals who may consider applying for the Middle East Training Contact.

Pinsent Masons has an extremely well-established offering in the Gulf region. Our offices in both Dubai and Doha undertake a wide variety of work in relation to the infrastructure, energy and finance sectors including teams specialising in both contentious and transaction construction, banking, finance & restructuring, property, corporate and litigation & compliance.

The work-shadow placement gives students the opportunity not only to gain on-the-job experience with Pinsent Masons as a law firm, but also to demonstrate that they have the skill set required to work for a large international law firm in the Middle East.

  • Placement Structure

A shadowing placement with Pinsent Masons Dubai offers you a programme of work-based learning and the chance to shadow our lawyers. You’ll experience first-hand what it’s like to be part of a team and get the chance to make a great first impression. It’s also a wonderful opportunity to start building a network of contacts. In this respect the opportunity is similar to the one we offer to school-age students through our School Work Experience Programme but in this instance the opportunity is being offered to university students.

Each year, we offer a two-week internship in our Dubai office for between four and six current university students or graduates who are interested in gaining commercial work experience.

  • Placement Dates

Dates for the 2017 Dubai placement were:

    • Sunday 13 August – Thursday 17 August 2017

In order for you to undertake a placement you will need to be available for the full duration of a placement. Unfortunately we are unable to offer placements outside the advertised dates and we do not offer ad-hoc placements or work experience opportunities.

Applications for the 2017 programme are now closed.  The applications for the 2018 programme will open during early 2018.

  • Salary & Benefits

Due to the visa restrictions, we are unable to pay anyone undertaking our Dubai-based placement or reimburse any expenses you may incur.  This means at present the placement will be best-suited to those applicants who already have close links to the Middle East region, although we do welcome applications from all candidates. Participants will also require the appropriate visa to enter the UAE and the Firm can support you with that.

  • Making an Application

Applications for the placement are made using our online application system. Your application form is your opportunity to take the first step in what could be a remarkable legal career. Please take your time, consider your answers and remember to double-check them for accuracy and spelling.

    Minimum Entry Requirements

The minimum academic requirements that all trainees are expected to meet or exceed are:

    • 300+ UCAS points from your best three best A-levels (excluding Critical Thinking and General Studies) or equivalent
    • Attainment or estimation of a strong 2:1 in your undergraduate degree
    • A Commendation or above at law school (GDL and/or LPC)

    From Application to Assessment

After the deadline all applications are reviewed and we shortlist those candidates who best demonstrate the capabilities we are looking for in our interns. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to log-on to our application system to book an interview slot.

Once all the interviews have taken place, we will contact all applicants to advise of the outcome of their application for a placement. The entire application process from deadline to notification should take no more than two months.

    Placement to Training Contract

Unlike the students undertaking our UK-based vacation placement programme, students who undertake this Dubai-based placement will not be automatically be considered for a Training Contract with Pinsent Masons and will need to complete a separate application. Applications for Training Contract are made using our online application system.
