Vacation Placements – Hong Kong
A vacation placement is the best way to get a real appreciation of our firm, culture, people and the opportunities we have here. You can test drive a career with Pinsent Masons, experience the energy and dynamism of our teams and have a first-hand look at some of the work we do. And, of course, it’s our best chance to get to know you and see you working as a member of our team.
Over the course of the winter and summer we run a series of two-week vacation placements during which you will work alongside our fee earners on real client matters, learn about the different practice areas within the firm and get to know as many of our people as possible. At the same time, a vacation placement offers you the chance to demonstrate your suitability for a training contract through your appetite for work and responsibility as well as your business sense. It’s an opportunity to make an early and lasting impression.
Alongside your work-based learning and training there is a healthy social aspect to the vacation placement. It’s a time for making friends and building contacts and you will be invited to a number of social events organised by our trainees.
The vacation placement programme is a vital part of our recruitment strategy, and we dedicate significant resources and energy to ensuring that the experience is practical and as true to the life of a Pinsent Masons trainee as possible. We prefer to recruit our trainees from those who have participated on our vacation placement. Please note that we may invite you to an interview for a Training Contract while you are on a vacation placement with us.
The winter placement programme operates from January to February and the summer placement programme operates from June to August. You will need to be available for a full two-week period during this time. You will need to organise your own accommodation and transport, although to help you meet the costs of this we pay all our vacation placement students HK$2,500 per week while they are with us.

Minimum Entry Requirements
The minimum requirements that all trainees are expected to meet or exceed are:
- attainment, or prediction of, a strong 2.1 law degreeprofessional working proficiency in English, Cantonese and Mandarin
- demonstration of key qualities which we value and look for, namely:

Application to Assessment
After the deadline all applications are screened to a pre-defined framework and we shortlist those candidates who best demonstrate that they meet our criteria. Those shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited to attend an interview in our Hong Kong office.
The interview itself comprises a number of different elements. Interviews will take place from November to December (for the Winter Programme) and from March to May (for the Summer Programme).
