Training Contracts – Hong Kong

A Training Contract at Pinsent Masons represents the first stage of a focused development programme that will enable you to become a qualified lawyer and fulfil your potential. Our training programme has been developed in-house; this ensures you receive a bespoke, balanced and comprehensive introduction to the legal profession.

  • Programme Structure

    We are proud of the high quality work, early responsibility and exposure to clients we can offer our Trainees, and are keen to offer the best possible training experience to those who join us. This begins from the moment you accept your Training Contract offer. We have a programme of events and communications which allow us to keep in touch with you throughout the time between you accepting your offer and joining the firm.

  • Skills Development

    Throughout your Training Contract you will continue to receive the technical legal skills training you require, as well as complementary skills training, which will fully equip you for your life as a newly-qualified Solicitor and business advisor.

  • Making an Application

    We are currently inviting applications for Training Contracts commencing in 2020 in our Hong Kong office. While numbers can fluctuate from year to year, we typically recruit up to three trainee solicitors each year.

    Applications for HK Training Contracts are made using your CV, together with a cover letter, and other supporting documentation. To apply you must submit electronic copies of the following documents no later than 31 May 2018 (for the 2020 intake):

    • cover letter
    • curriculum vitae
    • valid IELTS certificate
    • academic transcripts and certificates from your degree(s)
    • any other supporting documentation you consider relevant (e.g. references)

Please take your time to ensure your CV best reflects the skills and attribute you posses, and provides information regarding any relevant work experience. Remember to double check all your documents for accuracy and spelling.

    Minimum Entry Requirements

    The minimum requirements that all trainees are expected to meet or exceed are:

    • attainment, or prediction of, a strong 2.1 law degree
    • professional working proficiency in English, Cantonese and Mandarin
    • demonstration of key qualities which we value and look for, namely:

      • bold and creative

    Application to Assessment

    After the deadline all applications are screened to a pre-defined framework and we shortlist those candidates who best demonstrate that they meet our criteria. Those shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited to attend an interview in our Hong Kong office.

    The interview itself comprises a number of different elements. Interviews will take place from July to September every year.

  • Salary & Benefits

    Trainee salaries are benchmarked against market rates for international firms in Hong Kong and reviewed each year to ensure that, alongside the outstanding training package we offer, we also deliver an attractive and competitive remuneration and benefits package.

    If you secure a training contract with us prior to completing the PCLL, then Pinsent Masons will cover the cost of your tuition provided you successfully pass the PCLL exams and complete your training contract with us.

Together these ensure that you will continue to develop the necessary skills to allow you to progress further in your career and take on additional responsibility.
